X10 automation is a cool way to control ALL your home and office lighting and appliances with your home computer or a handheld remote control, even when your computer is off. The above are just a few examples of how X10 automation can make your life truly easier. How does it work? Simple! A programmable master control module (shown on the left) is plugged into an ordinary 110v electrical outlet and your computer is attached the module with a USB cable. You use the ActiveHome Pro software (shown on the monitor screen above) to program the master control module and that's it. You're automated. The master control module will then send signals through your existing electrical wiring in your home or office to the individual X10 devices attached to your lighting and appliances to control them. When you use a remote control, the remote sends a wireless signal to the master control module to relay to your X10 devices. The master control module stores all the X10 programming, not your computer so you can safely turn off your computer and the X10 devises still function as programmed. There's even a battery backup to retain the programming in the event of a power failure. Finally, many newer ADT security systems support X10 technology to control devices from your alarm control panel as well. |
